Health Programs

TSF was founded by a pediatrician and nurse practioner who responded to the critical need of educating Cambodians about best hygiene practices and basic medical care. Since then, a close collaboration has evolved with our orphanage pediatrician, as well as dentist, who attend to the wide range of needs in our orphanage and prevention in the wider community. TSF has arranged for specialized medical care for children in Phnom Penh but also in Bangkok and as far away as the US. More recently, as our children age, we have increased our focus on adult wellness programs.

Immunizations

Providing basic immunizations to children, at no charge, has been at the heart of our mission to meet Cambodians’ medical needs. With the help of generous donors, our staff doctor, and several volunteer medical students, TSF has provided thousands of Cambodian children with immunizations against diphtheria, pertussis and tetanus, as well as hepatitis B, which is so prevalent in Southeast Asia.

As the country continues to develop, more children are receiving their vaccinations at birth, but there are still remote areas where this is not possible. All children under the age of 18 in the villages of Roteang, Beng Krom, Prekchar, Lvea Sor and Sambour have benefitted from these immunization campaigns, as well as those living in Kampong Speu orphanage and our own Roteang orphanage, of course.

Caring for special needs children

Roteang Orphanage admits all children without regard for preexisting conditions such as HIV, syphilis, cerebral palsy, and hepatitis. Many children will stay in Foundation care permanently because of special needs. Children receive regular medical and dental checkups and those with special needs are continuously monitored to ensure their treatment regimens remain effective. In addition to our on-staff physician, TSF routinely reaches out to outside organizations and specialists to meet the unique needs of each child. Organizations include Perkins School for the Blind Thailand and Vietnam affiliates, Happy Kids Clinic in Phnom Penh for occupational therapy, and Caritas Cambodia for youth counseling.
